Angela Burchfield
FOUNDER, HEAD DIRECTOR & TEACHER FOR ALL AGE GROUPS & PRODUCER
Angela Burchfield is a lifelong educator, performer, and music therapist with over 30 years of experience teaching voice and piano. She’s known for her extraordinary ability to connect with children of all abilities—particularly those with special needs—and to help them discover their inner confidence both on and off the stage.
Angela has over five decades of performance experience spanning opera, theatre, rock, and sacred music. She has worn many hats throughout her career, including director, choreographer, music director, pianist, vocal coach, set designer, and muralist. Some of her recent directing and music directing credits include The Little Mermaid Jr., My Son Pinocchio, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, Legally Blonde Jr., and Matilda (performed at Universal Studios).
In addition to her work as a director, Angela brings over 50 years of experience as a pianist, vocalist, and composer. She specializes in musical composition, arrangement, and improvisation across a wide range of genres, creating original works and adapting existing scores to match the strengths and skill levels of each cast. Her ability to customize vocal parts, accompaniment, and full musical productions ensures that every student—regardless of experience—has the opportunity to succeed, shine, and grow through the magic of live theatre.
Angela holds a degree in Music Therapy from Duquesne University and has worked extensively in special education settings, including with students in Eanes ISD. She is deeply passionate about using theatre and music as tools for emotional development, creative growth, and building lifelong self-confidence.
Today, Angela continues to teach private lessons, direct productions, and perform locally. She is the co-founder and lead vocalist of Hideous Pink, a music project she created alongside her husband, Tim, and remains committed to making the performing arts accessible, empowering, and joyful for all children.

Tim Burchfield
FOUNDER, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR & EDUCATOR
Tim is a musician, performer, and visual artist with a background in musical theatre and set construction. As a teen, he performed in Theatre at Cushing Academy in Massachusetts and has since gone on to lead set design and construction for numerous local productions, including Unveiled: A Musical at the Scottish Rite Theater in Austin, My Son Pinocchio at AET, and Legally Blonde Jr. at Johnson High School in Buda.
Tim specializes in bringing theatrical worlds to life from designing to building entire stage sets. He’s also a prolific songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist, performing alongside Angela in their band Hideous Pink, which has been active in the Austin music scene since 2008.
Tim brings a grounded and strong foundation to Burchfield Educational Theatre, helping make the magic happen both onstage and off.

Lilja Macki
MARKETING DIRECTOR, CHILDREN’S DIRECTOR
Lilja Macki is a theatre educator, visual artist, performer, and marketing professional passionate about helping young artists find their voice. An Austin native, she graduated from McCallum Fine Arts Academy’s Theatre Program and The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a B.A. in English with a minor in History.
After college, Lilja worked as a Marketing Director for a successful small business while continuing to perform in theatrical productions, voice-over projects, and songwriting collaborations. Alongside her work in the performing arts, she is an accomplished visual artist and designer, specializing in fine art painting, branding, and artisan jewelry through her small business. Her advanced skills in visual design and creative marketing help shape the vibrant, imaginative aesthetic of Burchfield Educational Theatre.
Lilja is currently pursuing her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Texas State University, integrating person-centered approaches, emotional growth, and creativity into her work with young performers. She continues to perform locally as a vocalist, singing harmonies with Hideous Pink and other Austin-area music projects, and remains passionate about making the performing and visual arts accessible, empowering, and inclusive for all children.

Annie Kim Hedrick
HEAD COSTUMER & PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Annie Kim Hedrick is a performing artist and teacher in Austin, TX. She has taught camps and after-school programs with Dougherty Arts School, Zach Theatre, Creative Action, and Paramount Education. She has worked as a creator and performer in children's theatre for Young People's Theatre at Dougherty Arts Center, Interactive Performances with Creative Action, and Story Wranglers with Paramount Education. She loves making costumes from the Regency Era (Jane Austen/Bridgerton) and playing ukulele.

Karen Mal
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Karen Mal comes to us with over 30 years of professional theater experience in a variety of disciplines. She is a writer, director, composer, actor, musician, costumer, sound designer, teacher, sweeper of floors, homeschooling mother, and lover of children.
Karen is an award-winning songwriter and recording/touring artist and multi-instrumentalist. She has worked extensively with the Austin Scottish Rite Theater, Northern Sky Theater and Door Shakespeare.
Karen is passionate about being a team player, fostering community, and facilitating social-emotional learning and compassionate communication for children.

Madie Glauser
STUDENT INTERN, COSTUME DIRECTOR, & CHILDREN’S TEACHER (SPECIAL NEEDS FOCUS)
Madeleine is a student at Texas State University with a growing portfolio in theatre production and design. At the Burchfield, she has contributed to productions such as Aladdin and Descendants as a costume stitcher, and served as costume designer for Murder on the 518.
Her experience also includes roles in multiple Texas State and community productions, including spot operator for Into the Woods and stage manager for Oedipus. Most notably, she has worked as a costume stitcher for Texas State productions such as Escobar’s Hippos, Sister Act, Romeo & Juliet, and Guys & Dolls. In addition to her theatrical achievements, Madeleine is dedicated to inclusive arts education, having specialized in working with children with special needs and disabilities, and is passionate about creating spaces where all performers can thrive.

Aj Vaughan
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Sophia “Aj” Vaughan is currently a student at Moe and Gene Johnson High School here in Buda, TX and has been doing theater for the past 7 years. She has been cast in shows such as “Clue”, “Legally Blonde: The Musical”, “Mean Girls”, “Cheating Death”, “Rapunzel Uncut”, “Antigone Now”, “The Play that Goes Wrong” and many more. She loves working with kids and being able to educate them on all the wonderful aspects of theater. Some of her favorite things to do are staying up crazy late and painting/building your sets. Sophia is proud to represent Burchfield Educational Theater as your Assistant Director/(anything and everything all the time).

Jamie Watson

Hello, my name is Jamie Watson. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for 20 years. I’ve lived in Buda for 10+ years. I’ve prioritized raising my children and find joy in the daily experiences and activities that come with that role. I adore children and teaching and nurturing them is my priority in life. My goal is to actively participate in creating positive and lasting memories with them.

Noble Way
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
Noble Way has been involved in theatre for over a decade, gaining experience in nearly every role both on stage and behind the scenes. Noble has directed a handful of children’s productions, including Puffs, A Little Princess, and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Currently pursuing degrees in Drama and English, Noble is also a published writer and passionate storyteller.
